Salou registered, in 2017, a total of 7.994.205 overnight stays, which is a 6% more than the previous year and an average of 4,1 nights at the destination. Once again, and according to a report by Parc Científic i Tecnològic de Turisme i Oci, the capital of Costa Daurada is very attractive destination for those willing to enjoy their holidays.

In the same way, climate, knowing the destination, recommendations from friends, PortAventura World and Salou's 9 beaches became, once again, the main attractions tourist value when choosing their holidays destinations.

Tourists that stayed in hotels, campsites and apartments in Salou in 2017 meant an occupation rate of 70,2%, 2,5 points over last year's numbers. If you look a bit closer, we'll see hotels reached an occupation rate of 81,5% from the available rooms, with apartments reaching an 45,1%.

As for where tourists visiting Salou came from in 2017, we find the national Spanish market in the first place, with 39%, followed by the British market, with 18,5%, French market, with 11,7%, Russian market, with 11%, and Irish market, with 5%.

Website and social networks

Once more, the interaction of users via our website and social networks has become a key factor. Thus, we find that surpassed last year's numbers, with 449.204 visitors in total (2,53% more than 2016), with 61,4% of new users. Another key factor is, of course, the renovation of the Salou Tourist Board's website, which now has a fresher, more modern look, resembling the new logo. 

Social networks registered a higher growth in comparison with 2016. Thus, VisitSalou's Facebook Page reached 11.744 followers, which translates into a growth of 4.384 followers (3.300 in 2016).

Twitter went past 2.000 followers, reaching 2.270 on 31 December 2017. Reach for all the posts was 1.135.498 users, a very relevant growth if we compare it to the 889.000 users of 2016.

Finally, Instagram became, once again, one of the most popular social networks. The over 350 photos posted allowed it to reach 5.823 followers –over 1.700 more–, and an average of 410 "like", 80% more than in 2016.
