The history of Salou takes place around its natural port, which lies on the waters of the Costa Daurada. The Iberians were the first to establish settlements here, followed by the Romans, when the town was known as Salauris. Later King Jaume I would set sail from these waters as he and his troops headed off to conquer Majorca. Several centuries later, the port’s heavy trading activity would end up making it the target of numerous pirate attacks.
Salou is in the very centre of the Costa Daurada, one of the places with the greatest beauty on the Mediterranean Sea. With a privileged location, Salou is located on rich coastal lands, close to peaceful villages and croplands. Thus, fabulous outings are close at hand, where we suggest discovering the districts of Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, the Priorat, Tarragonès and Baix Penedès.
