The exceptional conditions of the natural port and the coastal lands of Salou have written the municipality’s history. The Iberian people and Roman civilisation were witnesses to the mythical Salauris, the ancient name of Salou. King Jaume I set sail from these waters to conquer Mallorca and the port’s heavy trading activity made it the target of pirates.
