Farmland

Farmland

Pla de Maset is an emblematic flatland area that today is largely covered by woodland. In the past, however, it was a diverse agricultural landscape, rich in biodiversity and of considerable social and environmental value. This largely unspoilt setting remains a reflection of the area’s social history. A valuable reminder of the fields that, until only a few decades ago, provided food and livelihoods for Salou families and formed an important part of the municipality's socio-economic life. Recognising and preserving this agricultural heritage is essential to understanding the history and identity of Salou, especially in a municipality that has become one of Catalonia's leading tourist destinations.

As recently as the last century, parts of Bosc Gran were still under cultivation. Today, among the scrub and some recently abandoned fields, visitors can still find carob trees (Ceratonia siliqua) and olive trees (Olea europaea). Active vineyards (Vitis vinifera) can also still be found in the area.
