Cap Salou

Cap Salou is an area of great cultural, historical and geological interest. In addition, it is the only area declared as a space of geological interest between the Ebro Delta and the Costa Brava.

This site of interest is located at the eastern end of the municipality, next to Vila-seca and La Pineda. Cap Salou is part of the sustainable project of the Camino de Ronda along our coastline and is home to 4 of the most natural coves in Salou: Cala Penya Tallada, Cala Font, Cala Vinya and Cala Crancs).

The Cap Salou space is surrounded by many natural jewels adapted to the peculiar Mediterranean weather conditions: ancient rocks; birds such as cliff birds or sea birds; plants such as the Limonium Gibertii, the Sabina Costera or the uniform sandy bottoms where the Posidonia meadows are developed, which serve as food and shelter for part of the fauna and flora that cohabits Cap Salou.

Precisely these underwater meadows of Posidonia, which extend along the entire coast of Tarragona, create habitats of great value that play a considerable role in protecting the coastline from erosion. In addition, they are also considered as a good bio indicator of coastal marine waters.

If you want to enjoy the incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea, do not miss the route of the viewpoints. And it is that in Cap Salou, and from west to east, you can find the Punta del Cavall, the Cala Morisca and the Faro de Salou, a real luxury for photography lovers. If you are a romantic person, we recommend you capture the fantastic sunsets that can be seen, and upload the images to social networks with the hashtags #CapSalou and #LoveSalou.

Did you know that one of the most symbolic points in this area is the Salou Lighthouse? It is an imposing construction that dates back to 1858, surrounded by native plants such as asparagus, white pine or sea lily, and which still functions as a lighthouse today.
